People keep asking how I ever ended up here... so below is the short-form technical resume I used to give the Employment Agencies. It's not a complete resume, but it usually got me an interview. You can guess that I no longer travel about the country doing contract Engineering work, but you can still contact me!

  • and no, I never managed to get a college degree along the line... always too busy designing, building, fixing, or teaching stuff, I guess. I've always intended to go back to school and get a formal degree in Mechanical Engineering or in Computer Science... but that is something I'll continue to look forward to once I retire from current projects.

SELECTED WORK EXPERIENCE:

Automated Assembly Line

12/93 to 6/94. Under contract to Custom Controls, Inc., Williston, Vermont as Mechanical Designer and Autocad Support Specialist. Project scope consisted of the design, fabrication, assembly, and testing of 4 automated production lines for the manufacture of automobile thermal heat shields. Project elements included: Bulk aluminum and fiberglass roll transfer and scrap removal systems; Steel rule die glass cutting presses; Proprietary hydraulic "press-within-a-press" stamping dies; Close-tolerance tooling plates. In addition to design responsibilities: Trained 4 other Design Engineers in AutoCAD Rel. 12 Update & AME Solid Modeling; Maintained entire project database manually in a non-networked environment. 12 patents, assumed by employer due to my "work for hire" status.


01/93 to 07/93. Engineering Department Head, Promedica, Inc., Tampa, FL. Established a formal Engineering Department for the Company during a period of rapid expansion. Instituted all data management procedures relating to engineering documentation. Reviewed, upgraded, and republished all Technical Data Packages for all the Company's product lines. Trained and supervised CAD Operators. Upgraded and troubleshot all Corporate computer hardware and software. Provided extensive support to the Company's Manufacturing Department. Oversaw all new product Research & Development, from customer request sketches through completed prototype production. Produced complex 3D solid models of current and new product lines, and generated complete computer-animated video tapes for the Company's Sales & Marketing Department.


06/91 to 05/92. The EC Corporation, Knoxville, Tennessee: CADD Manager and Senior AutoCAD Designer, responsible for all 3D mechanical design and 2D engineering blueprint production to MIL-STD-100/1000 and ANSI 14.5 standards. Supervised CAD Operators and integrated input from Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality Control Departments; Material Suppliers; and Consulting Engineers. Developed & implemented project operations and data management procedures. Created new product designs from contract performance specifications. Analyzed and revised existing product designs to enhance performance, shorten production time, and reduce manufacturing costs. Created 3D solid models and updated bills of material for existing products based on 2D blueprint geometry. Transformed CAD drawing files into technical illustrations for Training and Maintenance Manuals. Major projects included the M1A1 Main Battle Tank Weapons Simulator System for the Department of Defense, and the Vidiwall Video Display system used at the Barcelona Olympic Games for Philips Electronics, Holland. 15 patents, assumed by employer due to employment contract agreements.

Ten years service in the United States Navy, attaining the rank of Chief Machinist's Mate (E-7). Extensive, documented military training in the operation, maintenance, and certification of steam propulsion plant and auxiliary equipment; sea water, freshwater, and hydraulic piping; high pressure gas storage and distribution systems; and pneumatic instrumentation and control circuits. Specialty rating of Professional Deep Sea Diver within the Navy's Special Warfare Classifications. Held "Secret" ENTAC security clearance until honorably discharged in 1987. My official title was "Chief Machinist's Mate / Supervisor of Diving and Salvage / US Navy Special Diving Units." I LOVED my job in the Navy and woulld still be on active duty today... however, I suffered a major back injury in 1986 on the job which forever prevented me from diving again. I elected to take my Honorable Discharge and small pension- but upon my Discharge, it took the Navy less than 24 hours to "lose" my medical records, preventing me access to VA medical care AND the small pension I was entitled to. More on this subject in my upcoming book.

Fluent in all aspects of MS-DOS and Windows computer system operation and diagnostics. Registered Microsoft Windows Multimedia Software Developer and published CDROM author. HTML/CGI Internet programming skills, published WWW Author. Completely equipped multimedia production suite, custom built in my home and available for specialty projects.
